A Step To Reduce Food Wastage: Your Favourite food delivery app Zomato Launched a new feature to resell canceled orders at “unbeatable prices”.
According to Deepinder Goyal, more than 400,000 orders are canceled on the platform by customers every month. Canceled orders will now appear for customers within a radius of 3 kilometers if that customer lives near the delivery partner holding the order.
We don't encourage order cancellation at Zomato, because it leads to a tremendous amount of food wastage.

In an attempt to reduce food wastage caused due to order cancellations, on Sunday, Food delivery platform Zomato announced that it has introduced a feature called “Food Rescue,” wherein nearby customers can purchase the canceled orders at a discounted price. It has already scaled technology across the platform and will contribute to curbing food wastage while aiding customers, restaurants, and delivery partners in equal measure.
The canceled order will show the application for the customers within a radius of 3 kilometers of the delivery partner holding the order. The claim option will be available for only a few minutes for ultimate freshness.
The original customer and those in their vicinity will not get an option to claim the order. The income from the proceedings paid by the new customer will be divided equally among the original customer who has paid online and with the restaurant partner. Zomato will have no share of the proceeding except government taxes that need to be withheld.
Items that have a sensitivity to distance or temperature like ice creams, shakes, smoothies, and a few perishable items will not qualify for Food Rescue
Non-veg orders will be invisible to a customer who demands vegetarian food. Restaurant partners will be paid for the original order that was canceled, and also for an allocation of the payment made by the new customer, in case a claim is made.
Delivery partners will be reimbursed fully for the entire trip from pick up at the first customer and finally drop off at the new customer’s location.
We appreciate this great step from Zomato towards food wastage. This can also lead to enhancing the image of Zomato among different food delivery apps.
